Letter from the Executive Director - Dec. 2017
Dear Friends and Supporters,
"Gratitude is not only the greatest of virtues, but the parent of all others." Marcus Cicero
Here at the Land Trust we see your thoughtful generosity in our daily work. More than 1,000 households support our efforts to protect this beautiful place, and many of you have been supporters since the beginning.
The other day I ran across a Land Trust recipe book that was published in 2006. It touted the protection of approximately 72 acres, including the recent acquisitions of Chancey's gas station at the Frederica/Demere roundabout and the property on Frederica that would become the John Gilbert Nature Trail. Today we have approximately 1,000 acres under protection, including major land-holdings at Cannon's Point and Musgrove. These protected properties not only preserve ecological resources and iconic sites, but also prevent thousands of new houses from construction. Before the end of this year we will add several new properties to our protected list, and in 2018 we will add even more. You have made this possible.
Hardly a day goes by at our office that we do not discuss our gratitude for our loyal friends and supporters. As year-end gifts arrive in the mail and online, we marvel at your generosity. It's such an affirmation of the spirit of giving and gratitude that lives on this island. We really do not know how to adequately thank you, except to say "thank you" again and again.
Peace on earth, good will towards all,
David H. Pope, executive director
