WHO WE ARE
The St. Simons Land Trust is dedicated to preserving St. Simons' natural and scenic character, as well as enhancing the quality of life of the island community for present and future generations.
We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization directly involved in protecting the island's important land resources such as wetlands, maritime forests, and wildlife habitats. Since we began in 2000, we have preserved 170 acres of property on St. Simons Island, Georgia. This has been accomplished by working with caring landowners, the county, state and federal government, and our dedicated membership of more than 1,200 households to protect the island's unique charm and fragile environment.
Land Trusts are examples of a quintessential American phenomenon, voluntary action around a set of common community goals. In the case of St. Simons, the Land Trust has provided an extraordinary opportunity for the thousands of people who cherish the special qualities that have appealed to many generations of residents and visitors. When a beautiful natural area is preserved, a benefit is derived which will last for all-time.
The Land Trust has a vision for St. Simons Island that is outlined in our updated Greenprint. From the Island-Wide trail system to the series of parks and natural areas, our activities are building value for many constituencies. We build value for existing property owners by providing a quality environment for present and future owners. We build value in the education we provide to young people when they see the older generation appreciating nature and showing a willingness to financially support thoughtful conservation. This conservation ethic will have lasting
benefits for our special Island.
Your membership in the St. Simons Land Trust will make you a part of the many exciting tasks that lie before us. You will be joining an organization with a clear vision and an exciting plan to realize this vision in the crucial decade ahead.
