Strategic Plan for St. Simons Island
GREENPRINT

The Greenprint was developed in 2004 with extensive public input by St. Simons Land Trust consultants. For the first time, it identified areas of focus and provided a guideline for our activities.
Imagine a community that offers everyone access to a well-maintained island-wide trail system canopied in trees. This trail system connects a series of beautiful parks for passive recreation and wilderness areas that protect our unique barrier island ecology. Imagine 15 - 20% of the island set aside for recreation, habitat conservation, and historical preservation so future generations can forever enjoy our community’s greatest asset - the natural outdoors. The Land Trust's most recent projects - the Sea Island Spur Bike Trail and Cannon's Point - are representative of our great commitment to this vision.
We believe that an aggressive and better-funded conservation program could be directed to create a better balance of open space and developed properties. The St. Simons Land Trust could increase the amount of protected open space using both public and private funds and the public would gain greater access to passive and active recreation in parks throughout the island.
